About RIT Metaproject
“… pairs students with industry partners to develop products and solutions consistent with the Design is One philosophy espoused by the Vignelli Center for Design Studies. Student output is showcased in a global venue and in some cases, put into commercial production.” - Metaproject
The 2024 industry partner was Icon Design, a contemporary furniture design company.
Six out of fourteen student projects were chosen to be fully prototyped and brought to the International Contemporary Furniture Fair 2025 (ICFF) to garner interest for potential production.
The Convo Table was one of the six projects selected by Icon Design.

Full scale model
Icon Design is building the full scale Convo table prototype in house with the help of skilled woodworker and designer Terry Rhu.
Rhu assisted with stack lamination of the legs.
Quarter Scale Model
To create my quarter model, l printed my 3D model out of PLA and used wood filler to fill any holes. I sanded the filler down until smooth and sprayed the model with a couple layers of automotive primer making sure to wet sand in between the layers. Finally, I finished the model with a coat of durable gray spray paint.

Iterations
The different forms explored before deciding on the final. After finding the top form, the main goal was developing legs that match the sleek, elegant nature of the top.
Sketches
Divergent sketches mainly focusing the orientation of two people dining and top orthographic views.
My Direction
Take a seat and join the Convo. The Convo table is designed for sitting on the floor and creating a welcoming space for conversation while dining and watching tv. The flat edge faces the television while the curved edge allows for two people to sit at an angle, making it easier to talk and engage naturally.
I was examining the way in which eating at the dinner table has evolved over time.
